No.18 On Great Compassion

Deep sorrow contains its own history. Compassion that is able to embrace such sorrow must itself have shared the same experience.

The words “Together with all beings without exception I would like to attain birth in the Pure Land,” that constitute the last half of the ekomon (merit-transference gatha ) to be chanted at the end of the service, are filled with this same boundless love and compassion.
