Event: The 158th London Eza

Invitation to the 158th London Eza

It is with the greatest pleasure that I write once again to invite you to the 158th London Eza, to be held at Three Wheels from 1:00 p.m. on Sunday 26th June 2022.

Immeasurably saddened by the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the whole world is now shrouded in the clouds and mists of absurdity, conflict and untold misery. Against this backdrop, Venerable Chimyo Takehara has kindly sent all of us UK Dharma friends a wonderful message entitled Too Much Greed is the very Source of Manmade Disaster, helping us say the Nenbutsu with heartfelt prayers for world peace and the recovery of the Ukrainian people. For everyone’s benefit I shall be translating his thoughtful message into English.

Mr Morihiro Hosokawa, an artist and former prime minister of Japan, recently sent Venerable C. Takehara a letter of request, together with two anti-war paintings he had recently completed, the one entitled the Barbarism of One Hundred Demons – “My Guernica (after Picasso)”- and the other God, Have Mercy upon Us – “My Miserere (after Rouault)”. At the forthcoming London Eza, you can view both of these stunning paintings of his and hear the English translation of Mr Hosokawa’s sincere message of hope written in aid of the Ukrainian people. What is of such telling importance in his letter is that he explains he is acting as an artist, not as a politician.

As it is still quite difficult for us to gather together for important meetings like this, we’ve chosen to organise our upcoming London Eza in a hybrid format, with some of us meeting in person and others taking part via Zoom.

I am much looking forward to seeing you all at Three Wheels towards the end of the month, either in person or online.

Yours sincerely

Kemmyo Taira Sato
